Funds have reached the £400 mark and we have had some generous donations from clubs in our region (Houghton Radio Club,  DADARS Durham and District  Amateur Radio Society, Stanley Crook  BARAC Bishop Auckland Radio Amateur Club and New Marske / Cleveland RAYNET Group  )

Do i need to repeat myself !

Hi all sorry i have not blogged for a while.... whats been happening i here you ask ... well my friends.

I have been very busy with a new repeater project in the area which i am the treasurer, fund raiser, switch off op and general dogs body ( but only because i want to be)

This venture was a dream i had a long time ago after GB3DC lost its site, leaving South Tyneside a radio black spot.

This is our site we have acquired and we have been busy little bees getting hardware and software to work together.

We have had a Motorola 70cms repeater kindly donated by Crook-Stanley Amateur Radio Club, the owners of GB3CD.

SCI to the rescue

Hi all well i did not get the chance to post what i have been up to over the weekend but it seems Dave 2E1AII has had locking up problems related to RF getting into his laptop whilst using his Flex 3000

A plan of action was hatched by myself to resolve this and i thought a replacement PC would be a good start as the case on the laptop may not have the screening to hold off the RF

I started with my old media center and a  fresh install of Windows XP

So far so good ! with a install of PowerSDR running there was no problems using my Flex

Just to round it all off George G4RNI came to the club with his wireless Microsoft keyboard and mouse and told me he wanted £5 for them as he didn't like the ergonomics of them so i grabbed them for Dave which will make it a nice starting setup.

Im a WINNER

well lucky old me won the raffle at the STARS radio club tonight (a large box of wine gums and a £20 voucher http://www.starsradioclub.co.uk/
and here's the pictures

The gift card was kindly donated by the Air Cadets who are being taught at the STARS club

As you can see a wine gum frenzy ensued

It wasn't long before teeth started to fly (well fillings anyway)

Flexible Friend

Dave 2E1AII has been getting a early birthday gift and we have been working through a few minor learning issues but all in all it has worked out brilliant... a few QSO's later and he has contacted a station in Israel and a few in Europe, So its early days but i must say it does look nice.

Lets operate a special event station

Well today started with a contact with Stephenson railway museum's special event station GB2SRM and i decided to have a drive over to North Tyneside with my wife to attend and help out my club S.T.A.R.S. ( South Tyneside Amateur Radio Society )

..... a good day was had by all :)

Thursday 1 May 2014

I'm going up in the world!

I decided it was the right time to call to see Dave 2E1AII at his QTH and make improvements to his antennas after a catalog of issues for high SWR and signal problems.

A nice new W2000 triband antenna was installed and his HF long wire balun antenna was erected and all worked out fine (MFJ says YES)

A nice tidy coax plug

JOB DONE!

more power, more power Mo Farah

Well i had another compulsive purchase after a small problem in the shack ( i was on psk and transmitting whilst chatting on the 145.425mhz DADRAS clubnet  Durham And District Amateur Radio Society) two radios TXed at the same time and my poor Watson 25A PSU detected to much current and switched off..... it is still ok and it is designed to do that but i decided to buy a 40A which is not the best of colors but its 40A so who cares? and should work 2 radios just fine

Its been a busy week guys!

Well it started with a few purchases via eBay

1) a set of 8pin plugs and a socket to make a
Signalink Yaesu Lead for Dave 2E1AII

2) I made a extension 8 pin lead for my MD100 mic and the pins on the 8 pin socket were shorting  out so after a few clips with the wire cutters all was ok

3)I purchased a DSP speaker which really makes a difference and will upload a video to you tube when i get a bit more time to do so
